Beauty Beat: Beautyblender Sponge

Monday, April 12, 2010

Introducing my new soulmate makeup applicator: the Beautyblender, a tiny, pink, elliptical shaped wonder that creates a flawless, camera-ready face every time. Created by Hollywood makeup artists, Rea Ann Silva and Veronica Lorenz, the Beautyblender is an easy-to-use, soft tool that results in streak-free makeup application for that movie star glow. After switching to this product recently, I wouldn't ever dream of returning to my old drugstore makeup wedges.

Here's how I use my Beautyblender sponge to create a luminous complexion with liquid foundation: First, I moisten and squeeze out the sponge to wring out excess water. Next, I put a few drops of foundation on the sponge and, using a dabbing motion, stipple the rounded end to fan out coverage over large areas of the face, such as the cheeks, forehead, chin and down my nose. Using another dab of foundation at the pointed end of the sponge, I then blend into smaller, hard to reach areas of the face, such as around the nose, under the eyes and for extra coverage where needed. I was amazed at my first use of the Beautyblender that the sponge did such an amazing job in the undereye area that I could almost go without using a heavy undereye foundation. The texture of the sponge is smooth and soothing, due to its latex-free formulation.

After applying foundation, use the Beautyblender soy-based cleanser to wash the sponge after each use, or, use any other facial or brush shampoo to clean the surface. This last cleansing step is important-- just think about the germs that can accumulate on sponges and brushes that touch your face on a daily basis...

While the price of a Beautyblender sponge can seem a bit steep at first, consider the flawless, foolproof application that you can achieve every time you use it! The sponge can be used, with proper care, for up to 3 months, which is a heck of a whole lot longer than most latex drugstore wedges. It's a little luxury that can also ultimately save you on the cost of foundation per use. While other sponges are so porous that they soak up the foundation, leaving little on the face, this sponge does a great job of blending and spreading makeup over the face with just a few drops of your favorite color. Beautyblender definitely has a new fan for life. I will be repurchasing this one, and buying several others as gifts for friends.

The sponge sounds great! Although I must admit I am too lazy to use tools...I can't remember the last time I touched my foundation brush! *oops*

What a cool product! I usually just use my fingers for spot foundation, but if I were to need more fuller coverage say for a special occasion, this would certainly come in handy!

I'm so intrigued! I watched the instructional video on their site and it seems like a good product. A bit pricey though at $35... =( At least compared to drugstore sponges for $2.. =(

How clever! I need a better way to apply foundation than with my clumsy finger so I've been looking for a good applicator.

I've heard great things about this sponge. I don't wear makeup enough to justify buying it though...
