Weekend Links: Fashion Week Fever Edition!

Friday, February 5, 2010

I've been noticing a trend in New York Fashion Week invites: the e-vite and the e-RSVP. Sure, it's environmentally friendly and being able to confirm shows online is certainly very convenient... But there's nothing more evocative than a really beautiful or creative paper invitation to an event. The weight and feel of it in your hand. I was a bit late in requesting invitations for the shows this season, but I managed to receive a few beautiful ones in the mail recently. Among my favorites? Tess Giberson's newsprint foldout, Rachel Antonoff's sweet "paperback" invite with relevant event details highlighted on what resembles a torn page from a mystery novel and Doo.Ri's pure white invitation embossed on thick cardboard.

Yeah. I'm starting to get excited about Fashion Week again. Hard to believe it's only a week away! Will you be at any of the shows? Hope you enjoy your weekend! Here are a few links to keep you occupied...

Purple Lab Lip Gloss Winner!!!

First, I wanted to announce the winners of our Purple Lab NYC Big Lips Skinny Hips lip gloss giveaway! Congratulations to comment #6: Leigh! Hope you enjoy "No Panty Lines," the brand's clear gloss... Thanks so much for all your lovely comments and entries.

Gen Art Show Ticket Winner!!!

It was indeed a big week for giveaways, as we teamed up with the lovely Meghan to give away a pair of tickets to the Gen Art runway show on February 10th to check out Brooklyn-based label WesFeld, among other Dream Sequins favorite emerging labels. Congratulations to comment #25: Every Little Counts! Our Beauty Editor, Tamara, and I will be at the Gen Art show cheering on these wonderful designers and we hope to see you there!

Must Read Blogs

This week, I urge you to check out these wonderful blogs, whose marvelous bloggers were among the top commenters on Dream Sequins for the week. Reading these fashion blogs is like taking a trip around the world. Thank you for being lovely and amazing...
Formspring

People are starting to use this service called Formspring. It's a very simple service that allows people to ask each other questions (either logged in or anonymously) and the user can post their answers to these questions. Kind of creepy, but cool. Are you on Formspring?

Feel free to ask me a question and I'll answer it as honestly as possible.

So what are your big plans for the weekend?

I always dream of the New York fashion week but sadly, I won't be in US anymore by next week. I'll be back in Manila. If given the chance, I'll hop on a plane to NYC from LA to watch the shows... that is, if I get an invite. Hahaha!

What a great way to kick off the weekend...winning a fun new lip gloss! Too bad my plans include hunkering down for the oncoming Snowpocalypse pt. Deux, but at least I have some free goodies to look forward to. Thanks for the contest!

I agree... it's so nice to receive actual invites. That's part of the draw if you ask me. I understand wanting to be environmentally friendly, but fashion week invites can be an exception :-)

I know what you mean about good old fashioned paper invites. I love those. My gf actually handmade her bday party invites last year with a black and white damask pattern, it was beautiful and even though I worked that night, I couldn't say no! It's funny because knowing all the work she put into making those invites and actually mailing them out, I felt obliged to go, aside from the fact that she is one of my good girl friends haha.

Those invites look lovely though! and I just saw my twitter name on your Friends of the week column - Thanks D!

I've been seeing a lot more use of Formspring as well but haven't really gotten around to using it. Def creepy but cool haha.

i'd prefer getting a well done paper invite to an evite...which is why i send out paper invites to parties. i've always liked papers and graphic design, so it just kind of goes along with that, i suppose

wow, how I wish I could be invited to a show - I always walk by bryant park just to get a quick look but I've never been in and now this year will be the last of the tents ::sigh::: hope you have a great time!
