Former Project Runway contestants, Wesley Nault and Daniel Feld, the design duo behind emerging womenswear label, WesFeld, won a $10,000 grant sponsored by Plastics Make It Possible to use towards their collection at New York Fashion Week, during a competition to create two looks based on plastic or plastic-based fabrics. On February 10th, WesFeld will be showcasing their collection, inspired by elements of water and nature, at the Gen Art New Garde show. Here is a video preview and sneak peek photos from the Brooklyn studio of the designing pair, who are alums of design labels such as Donna Karan, Heatherette and Marc Jacobs.
The designers' winning looks from the competition are a nuanced combination of tough and soft. The first look is a pale pink dress made with poly-organza and poly-taffeta with plastic boning to resemble a conch sea shell. The second look is a grey gown which was inspired by sea creature fossils and seahorses. These dresses look really promising, and I can't wait to see the rest of their collection in person.
