Designer Profile: Shabd

Thursday, January 7, 2010

Brooklyn-based artist and designer Shabd Simon-Alexander uses hand dyeing techniques to create unique clothing that is more than just easy on the eyes-- they are pieces with depth and feeling. For the past few seasons, the designer has been experimenting with tie-dye techniques for her label, Shabd. Despite the limited edition nature of her collections, basic pieces, such as bodysuits and leggings, available online at shops such as Stand Up Comedy and Not Just a Label as well as her own online boutique, are more affordable than you might think. Right now, I'm in love with the soft romanticism of her S/S '10 collection lookbook. The prints remind me of blurry watercolor flowers.

Gorgeous! I love how they don't look like the typical tie-dye (aka 60s hippie). It's like Monet on a garment!

oh myyyy I want all of it! the dresses are amazing! and the leggings too! I esp love how in the 3rd pic, the colour changes mid-way and blends into the tie-dye effect, that is gorgeous. if you keep featuring designers like this, I'm seriously going to go broke. but keep them coming!

btw, looking forward to your random album cover! xo

I've tried to do the same on my own, and the result is pretty the same, but I'm not so brave to put on this kind of clothes when I go out...so I especially love the pieces in bright colours!
