EVA New York MISELA invitation @ Dream Sequins

Hello! Hope you are enjoying the start of a good weekend. This past week was rainy, but eventful: one of the highlights of my week was posting my 100th post on Dream Sequins. The entries for my giveaway have now closed, and I'm looking forward to posting the winners on Monday! Hopefully the sun will make a much-needed appearance this weekend because I have two outdoor birthday parties and a rooftop soiree on the calendar. What will you be doing? If you have a free moment, be sure to check out these Weekend Links...

READ

I just discovered Bobbin Talk, a wonderful blog penned by a Parsons fashion/accessories instructor who started the blog to cover the creative endeavors of her students and other topics in directional fashion design. Check it out. It's wonderful!

Dapper Kid, a new favorite blog, wrote a thought-provoking post about the personal power of clothing, which immediately made me think about how disenchanted I have become about the fast fashion concept in general.

It's Unbeweavable!, another new favorite blog (Liz is such a charming and engaging blogger), lists some amazing giveaways on the web.

If you enjoy atelier visits and interviews as much as I do, you will love The Swelle Life's interview with Paris-based couture and pret-a-porter designer, Xuan-Thu Nguyen.

If you are just catching up on Dream Sequins, be sure to catch this interview with the amazing Trish Ginter of indie marketplace, Smashing Darling. Please also check out this post on diversity in fashion, spurred on by the regrettable passing of a professor of mine from college and this style post exploring my fear of body-con dresses.

DO/SEE

There are many sales happening this weekend, but the V is for Vintage event caught my eye. Vintage boutiques, stylists and private collectors will be hosting a pop-up shop in Soho. The event will be open from 12-8 pm daily and will continue through the weekend until Sunday June 7th. 112 Greene Street. Check out http://www.visforvintagenyc.com/ for more details.

I received an email about the Tribeca Retail Club "fashion soiree" taking place today and tomorrow between 11 am to 8 pm, featuring new talent in menswear, womenswear and accessories, including Charles & Victoria, Saurette, Jennifer Elizabeth, Muses Handbags, Love Brigade, Scosha, Sobriety and LaVie Clothing Co. Chacala NY, 394 Broadway, 4th Floor. RSVP: fashion@chacalany.com. For more information see: http://www.chacalany.com/.

Save the Date for the MISELA trunk sale at EVA New York on Wednesday June 10th between 2 and 8 pm. The fall collection will be available for pre-order at a discount, and spring/summer pieces will also be available. Serra Turker, the designer and founder of the label, studied textile design at Rhode Island School of Design. At EVA, 355 Bowery Street. RSVP details are shown in the invite above.

Two stylish Etsy stores will be offering sales this weekend: Starting today, on TenThings, select bohemian chic jewelry/accessories are on sale at 50% off, with 20% off regularly priced items (via PayPal refund after purchase) if you mention Dream Sequins. And Stylesmith has some romantic headpieces up for a sample sale; also check out her whimsical lockets.

Also online and closing June 10th? The Literary Associates online charity auction to support Literary Partners, a nonprofit devoted to promoting adult literacy, a wonderful cause that I pledged to support this week. For more information on the nonprofit, check out http://literacypartners.org/. Items up for bid include a Miu Miu handbag, New York luxury hotel packages, spa and personal assistant hours. Please check it out. It's for a great cause!
