New Museum Triennial: "The Generational: Younger Than Jesus"

Tuesday, April 7, 2009

Some days, you just don't feel like getting out of bed.

But what if your bed...

... was part of some installation at a museum?

And on top of that: an installation on opening night?

Would you pretend to lie very still, while artsy-fartsy people wearing black hovered around you?

The images above are not part of some Williamsburg party aftermath.

They are snaps from an opening at the Gen Y-driven triennial entitled "The Generational: Younger Than Jesus" at New Museum tonight.

Lots of Campari cocktails and video art.

It's worth checking out.

This being a triennial of artists under the age of 33, of course they would have a blog dedicated to the exhibits:

Update: Here's a little Flickr stream of other photos from the exhibit:

Here's what I wore tonight.

When I got home to take a picture of my outfit, I realized today was the last day of my style challenge week of not wearing black.

I'm doing a happy jig. The ban on black has been lifted at last!

I hate quoting SATC, but this reminds me of that installation Carrie visited where she first met the Russian (the woman who never slept). I guess this is the exact opposite! I'm always divided when it comes to visual/performing exhibits - it's difficult to make it meaningful instead of seeming silly. This sounds intriguing!

It is so like that installation where the woman never sleeps. I always find these things fascinating. I can't say I really understand but I do find it interesting what people come up with. Your outfit was very cute too! Very dignified.

Haha, that's awesome. I could probably sleep through a party at a museum, as long as I'd had a drink or two ahead of time.

P.S. I added you to my blogroll!

I, too, work on trying not to always wear black. It's tough as it always looks so good.

The museum post is awesome!

Haute-Shopper: I'm so into the performance art! In this case, as with most art viewing during openings, it was hard to distill the essence of the piece since it was majorly crowded and noisy. I will have to go back and check it out again. I was so sure that the "sleeping" person was not a real person that I nearly touched one of her bare feet.

Helen: Thanks for your kind comments. I'm just happy to be back in black today :)

K: It was intense, crowded and noisy, so I'm glad I had my drinks beforehand! Thanks for adding me to the blogroll, too.

tenthings: Thanks for your comments. As I said, I'm back in black today. But I think this noir detox is going to my head. I can't seem to buy any more black clothing items these days!

I think I need to do a no-black week! Your little top is so cute. And that installation is craaazy, I don't think I could stand everyone watching me sleep. :)

i.d.: Aw thanks for visiting! The top is actually "vintage" Topshop, from a few years ago. I was really scrambling to find something non-black to wear that week. I highly recommend that people try this black detox for even a few days. It really adds perspective to your shopping habits, too.
