Rumors are starting to surface about trouble for the Barneys company (at left, a picture of the flagship on Madison from racked.com). In a WWD article this morning, David Jackson, CEO of the Dubai parent company of Barneys, said that the high-end retail company is not for sale and hopes to resolve certain issues in the upcoming weeks.
Four recent flagships-- Las Vegas, San Francisco, Dallas and Boston-- have been reportedly doing slow business. I can personally attest to the fact that while visiting Las Vegas with some friends last June, the multi-level Barneys was eerily empty, save for some activity in the front-of-the-house shoe section.
Here's hoping that new leadership will invigorate the company and trim the proverbial fat.
